Viola Instructor

Chang Zi Yi is an 18-year-old violist from Singapore. She began playing the violin at age three and later took up the viola at age nine. At 13, she was accepted into the School of the Arts Singapore and is currently pursuing a Diploma in Music Performance (Viola) at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. She currently studies viola under Marietta Ku, a member of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

Zi Yi has received recognition in competitions, both in Singapore and internationally. Among her achievements, she has earned First Prize in the Enkor International Music Competition and First Prize in the Great Composers Competition. She has also performed solo concertos with the Kids' Philharmonic Orchestra.

Beyond solo performances, Zi Yi enjoys chamber music and actively performs in various ensembles. She has been a member of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra since 2022 and the Orchestra of the Music Makers since 2027. She has performed in a quartet alongside members of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and has also performed with ReSound. She is also a part of the Bencoolen Quartet, which has participated in the Advanced Quartet Program and recently won the First Prize in the Singapore Raffles International Music Festival. 

 

Zi Yi has participated in numerous music festivals locally and overseas, such as the Casalmaggiore Music Festival, and the most recent one being the Cascadepeaks Chamberfest. She has attended masterclasses with Mr Nikita Pogrebnoy, Professor Kirsten Doctor, Professor Yi-Fang Huang, and Professor Sharon Wei.
