Wang Wei is kidsphilharmonic@sg Winds tutor. He is currently the bass trombonist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He previously was the bass trombonist of the China National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra.
Wang Wei studied in the Middle School affiliated with the Central Conservatory of Music with Hu Bingyu in Beijing; Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music under Allen Meek and Shannon Pittaway in Singapore with full scholarship; New England Conservatory of Music under Douglas Yeo and Norman Bolter in Boston with full scholarship.
Wang Wei had worked as guest bass trombonist with Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops Orchestra, Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, China National Symphony Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Macau Orchestra and many others. In the summer of 2009, Wang Wei received a scholarship from the Boston Symphony Orchestra Member’s Association to attend the Tanglewood Music Centre. The conductors he worked with include Herbert Blomstedt, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Charles Dutoit, Christoph Eschenbach, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur.
As a soloist, Wang Wei gave many recitals in several cities in China, United States and also in Singapore. In 2008, he won the NEC Concerto Competition, and played the subZERO Concerto with NEC Sinfonietta in Jordan Hall, Boston. In 2011, his first solo album was released under China Record. He can also be heard on Frequency Band trombone ensemble CD “Phoenix”, and “The Ring Without Words” with NCPA Orchestra and Lorin Maazel under Sony Music China.
